Dear Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s):

I hope your family had a happy and healthy summer track out; and everyone is ready to begin a new, exciting, and fulfilling school year.  My name is Sarah Lindsey and I will be teaching your child 7th grade Social Studies for the 2010-2011 school year at Franklin Academy. I am very excited to be a part of the Franklin Academy team and greatly look forward to meeting each and every one of you.  My door is always open; and I welcome any questions and conversations throughout the rest of the year.

I graduated from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA with a Bachelor of Arts in Education and Theatre.  For the last seven years, I have taught math, language arts, and social studies to 6th and 7th graders in both Virginia and North Carolina.  Two years ago, however, I decided to go back to school full-time for my Master of Education degree in Middle Grades Education with a concentration in social studies and language arts instruction at NC State University.  It was during this fall semester in graduate school which I was given the opportunity to conduct a research study in a classroom at Franklin Academy.  From the first day I walked through Franklin Academy’s doors I knew this was the school for me! It was a joy working with the students, their teachers, and the administration. Needless to say, when a position opened up, I was thrilled; and I decided to pursue my master’s degree on a part time basis so that I could get back in the classroom.

While many forms will be bombarding you this first week of school, I encourage you to review the information regarding my homework and classwork policies, grading, discipline, and classroom procedures with your child.  Some of these forms may require your signatures and/ or approvals and contain pertinent information on the daily operation of our class.  I have included a list of materials your child will need to succeed in our classroom this year on the course website as well.  While all of these supplies do NOT need to be brought to school the first day, your child will need these resources as soon as possible.

Additionally, please be aware of detailed information posted via RenWeb.

If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to call me at 919-570-8262 or via email at lindseys@franklinacademy.org.

Thank you in advance for all of your support!

Sincerely,

Sarah Lindsey
